Five strategies to increase your blog views (and followers)

Disclaimer: I am not a professional blogger and I’m not the person to tell you how to blog, but the following things helped me gain my views and my followers. I can’t promise you that they will work for you the same way they worked for me!

Okay then, after we did this little clarification, let’s move on to the actual tips:

blogviews!

1. Write high quality content

By this I mean: write something that matters to you and you are good at.

I noticed that I get most views and comments when I write personal posts which have value to the others. People love to read things they can relate to. People are nosy and love to read about other people’s experiences, to gain inspiration or just not to feel alone. People love to engage with humans, and not just someone who stays at the other side of the monitor. People love to connect.

For example:

13 reasons why I might follow your blog (or probably not) – I think that’s the post with most views and comments ever! Yes, it’s my opinion and some may not agree with it, but people related to at least one of my points.

My experience moving self-hosted – I saw a lot of people wondering about going self-hosted. That’s a big step and it’s alright to be scared of it. That’s why I shared my experience and again, people were interested to read about what it’s like.

My favourite nude lipsticks – here I talk about my favourites, and people love to discover and learn about new products, which might be useful to them.

You see the pattern? It’s all about my thoughts, and topics I’m passionate about. But at the end of the day, people were interested in what I had to say, because they could relate. Don’t write something just because everybody does – put your heart in your work!

2. Show people that you exist

And while we are talking about connecting, it’s a good time to mention that it’s very important to make the first step and show other people that your blog is out there.

Visit other bloggers in your niche and show them some love. Leave some comments or even give them a follow if you like. The vast majority will return the favour (but don’t follow somebody only to expect a follow back!!). Even if they don’t, there are people like me, who love to discover new blogs! If I see a new name under my favourite blogger’s post, I’d definitely check it out.

Also, you can use First Friday if you are new, or join the Community pool every Monday if you want to expose your blog for some feedback. Use the Daily Prompt for some inspiration. Participate in blog parties and be a friendly blogger. Check other blogger’s tags and awards, so you can find new people to follow.

Honestly, I think that’s one of the biggest blogging mistakes. You can’t just sit and expect people to stumble upon you. Unfortunately it’s not how it happens… you have to invite them first (without dropping your link in the comments ofc, that’s just annoying).

3. Use social media

(time for some shameless self-promotion)

I use:

Instagram –Β @siyanna96

Pinterest –Β @siyanaonline

Twitter –@siyanaonline

and Facebook – but I only share in closed blogging groups and not on my personal feed.

I’d appreciate if you give me a follow, but only if you genuinely like what I post πŸ™‚

Anyway, I don’t usually gain many views from social media, it’s only from time to time. But that’s actually my fault, because I don’t spend much time on it. But if you are dedicated to promote your work, you’ll definitely see a difference!!

4. Engage with your readers

Okay, now you’ve followed the first three steps and you see somebody new reading your blog. All you need to do is reply to their comment, and check their blog back! You may not follow it (you are not supposed to like every single blog in the world) but it’s very important to be a kind, friendly and supportive fellow blogger. It costs you literally a minute but that action helps you to build a strong community. Also check number 2 again – leaving a comment on someone’s blog can possibly gain you more viewers!

5. If none of these works….

Are you sure you have a comments section and a follow button? New bloggers often forget how essential that is! Sometimes, no matter how much you like a blog, you just can’t find your way through it!

These were my personal 5 strategies! They worked very well for me, although I can do better and I know it, I’m just too lazy πŸ˜€ Would you be interested to write a separate post about Pinterest/Instagram/Twitter/Facebook? Omg thanks. I just started yesterday and came across your blog. One question – how do you add a follow button to your page? I usually go on Reader and search for people and that’s where I could follow and like.

There should be an option to add it after you press ‘customize’ your theme. x

I went on another device and saw a follow this site button at the very bottom. But I don’t know if it shows up. I tried to do the coding thing on this generator but it didn’t even work

Great tips! I wholeheartedly agree with you on the connecting and writing high quality content parts:) I used to just write anything, just so I had something to post, but lately I’ve been trying to put a bit more thought into it, (like I’m also caring a lot more for my featured images). My following hasn’t really grown in the last couple of months though, but it’s entirely my fault. It can be difficult sometimes to find the time to blog, check out other blogs and I don’t even dare get into the social media part of it:P

Being consistent is really important in my opinion. I also have this ‘clearing routine’ when I sit and unfollow all of the blogs who haven’t posted anything for 20+ days. I followed someone for a reason, because I like their content and want to see more of it. It’s super sad to see bloggers give up blogging for months πŸ™ But at the same time – it’s your blog and you decide how often to post. Don’t let some numbers intimidate you! x

Ahaha then I definitely would not have survived the cut a couple of weeks ago:P In May and June I was so swamped with exams and everything and then it took me a while to get back into it. I’m really trying to be consistent though, my goal is to post at least once a week if possible. Hopefully that should be doable:)

Oh well 😁there are a few bloggers who don’t post very often now but still read other people’s posts. I like to feel someone’s presence and can always follow again if I see the person is back 😁

That is true. Being active definitely makes a huge difference in my perception of other bloggers as well:)
