Five tips to combat sadness/depression/negative thoughts

As every human being, I sometimes get sad. And by sometimes, I mean most of the times. I feel empty, worthless and alone. But I also feel that this is not how it should be – I am grateful for everything I have, but still there is always something that bothers me and does not allow me to fully embrace my happiness. The following are what I usually do to make myself feel better. I can’t promise that all of these things will work for you as well, but if they reach and help even only one person, it would make my day brighter.

Като всеки нормален човек, и аз имам доста моменти, в които ми се струва, че света е срещу мен. Чувствам се разбита и сама. Но в същото време знам, че това не трябва да е така – благодарна съм за всичко, което имам, но понякога има нещо, което все не ми достига. Съветите, които ще споделя с вас днес са всички тези неща, които аз лично правя, когато съм тъжна. Не мога да гарантирам, че ще ви свършат работа, но на мен определено помагат.

1.Clean that mess – in your wardrobe and in your head.

That’s the easiest way to get distracted from your thoughts. There are number of benefits I could think of – for example you could find that favourite top you haven’t worn since 2014 or that lovely unopened strawberry shower-gel. Or you could get rid of that old skirt that you won’t be putting any time soon. Maybe you can give it to that friend who always liked it or donate it to some charity organisation. Either way, you have the chance to make someone happy, and this surely would make you feel a bit better. And the best part is that you would get so much space to fill in with new stuff!

Най-леснит начин да се разсеяш от мислите си! И не само, може да намериш любимата си блузка от 2014 или онзи ягодов душ-гел, който купи преди време и заряза в шкафа. Може дори да разкараш едно-две неща. Например, подари някоя твоя стара дреха на приятелка или я дай към някоя благотворителна организация. Каквото и да решиш, има огромен шанс да зарадваш някого, а това не може да не те накара да се почувстваш по-добре. Най-хубавото е, че си освобождаваш място за нови придобивки!

2. Put that energy in a fantastic meal!

Вкарай цялата си любов в някое ястие!

Get in the kitchen, roll your sleeves and make that cake you always wanted to try! It may not happen from the first time but don’t give up! Maybe do some fancy pasta or try the recipe your friend gave you last year on that party. Whatever you decide, just make sure you do everything by yourself. Don’t microwave the pizza and most importantly – don’t be afraid to experiment. This would also help you to get distracted from your thoughts as you will be focused on what you are doing. Throw your ‘I can’t’ attitude in the bin and concentrate on the future pie(ce) of art.

Отиди в кухнята, запретни ръкави и приготви онази торта, която винаги си искал да направиш! Може да не се получи от първия път, но не боли да опиташ пак. Може да приготвиш някое изискано ястие или да пробваш онази рецепта, която ти дадоха на партито миналия месец. Каквото и да решиш, не забравяй да приготвиш всичко сам! Не си претопляй замразена пица и най-важното: не се страхувай да експериментираш! Подвизите в кухнята също ще помогнат да се разсееш, а след това винаги може да се върнеш към първа точка и да почистиш.

3. Stretch them legs!

People recommend doing yoga to manage stress and blablabla, but I don’t have the patience required. I will go outside and run or stay at home and do the most dynamic workout. Either way, I would feel so tired afterwards, that I will not have the strength to roll even one tear. Doing exercise will not only help you feel better but will also definitely make you look amazing!

Доста хора препоръчват йога за справяне със стреса, но аз нямам нужното търпение за нея. Аз обичам да тичам навън, когато времето е хубаво или да остана вкъщи и да следвам упражния в интернет, когато не е. И в двата случая съм толкова уморена след това, че не ми остава време и енергия за негативни мисли. Упражненията ще те накарат не само да се чувстваш добре, но и да изглеждаш ослепително!

   4. Talk to someone!

Поговори си с някого.

You don’t need to share your problems if you don’t feel ready to. Or if you think the other person wouldn’t understand. But just talk. About anything. Call to your grandmother just to check how’s been doing, to hear how loved you are. You are not alone, even if you are feeling that way. There are people that like you, admire the things you do and enjoy your company. Do not isolate from them just because you are not in your best mood. They can help.

Ако не се чувстваш готов да споделиш грижите си, не е нужно да го правиш. Но просто си поговори с някого за каквото и да е. Обади се на баба си да разбереш как е и да чуеш колко си обичан. Не си сам, дори да се чувстваш така. Има много хора, които ти се възхищават и тайно искат да бъдат до теб. Не се изолирай, само защото не си в настроение. Другите могат да  помогнат.

5. Just let it be!

Приеми го такова, каквото е.

Just stay in bed all day. Treat yourself with some hot chocolate and don’t feel guilty if you eat the whole box of ice cream. Cry for two hours in a row and listen to your favourite music from 9th grade. Embrace all of your negative thoughts and don’t let them smell your fear. You are stronger enough to beat them, just let them keep you company for some time. Eventually they will go away. Because they always do. I promise.

Потъркаляй се в леглото целия ден. Почерпи се с голям горещ шоколад и не се чувствай зле, заради това, че изяде цяла кутия сладолед. Поплачи си и послушай любимите си песни от 10 клас. Приеми всичките си негативни мисли и не им позволявай да надушат страха ти. Достатъчно си силен, за да ги пребориш, но не пречи да споделите компанията си поне за малко. Рано или късно те ще си тръгнат. Винаги го правят. Наистина.

    These are some great tips! I know for me experimenting in the kitchen helps. I baked plantains at home for the first time around thanksgiving. The first time they didn’t come out sweet. But doing it a couple times over, they came out much better. Turns out the plantains weren’t ripe enough the first time. It can feel so satisfying (and make your day) when you find a solution from experiments!

And also, there is this satisfying feeling when you share you cooking experiments with someone and they absolutely love it. It’s impossible not to make your day!

        Thankfully plaintains are easy to make and are fried and baked. They look just like bananas, but less curvy and longer in length. Im eager to know about your experience with cooking them. Happy to know that we both learned something from each other!

    Nice tips! Exercising is the method that I use to just release everything. It works great for me.

      I honestly prefer not to blog when I’m sad because my posts turn out to be too negative. I prefer to share positive energy and that’s why I wait for this phase to simply pass!

    Great tips dear! I sometimes find myself doing either of your points when I feel low, involuntarily! Nice, you literally just accumulated all the points together and shared it making it easier for people who do not know what to do when they feel sad, to be doing these voluntarily! Thanks 😀
