Recently I have been honored to be among the first people nominated for the Lottery Tag by the creator herself – Natalie Vinh. The idea behind this tag is simple:
Imagine you won the lottery. There is no set sum of money – it could be $100 or $100m dollars – let your imagination run with it. All up for interpretation. Tell us what you would do with that money, and then tag a couple of your blogging friends to do the same.
We have three categories: Small stuff, bigger stuff and really big stuff. I’ve never actually thought what would I do if I won the lottery (because I don’t even try 😀 ), but I feel like this is going to be a fun exercise. Let’s get started!
I’d get a few make up pieces, perfumes, clothes, bags, shoes… I mean nothing spectacular or ultra expensive, I’d just go do some shopping to refresh my wardrobe without feeling guilty about it.
Then I’d definitely get a really good camera because I’ve been wanting one for ages! I am really passionate to do some photography, even just as a hobby, but the investment is too much for a poor student 😀
I would then get a big dog (or maybe two to keep each other company when I’m not around), because I would be able to finally afford to look after one by myself. Getting a dog might not be a big deal for many people, but when you need to get it a passport, or to move out because of it, it might be a bit pricey.
The first thing that comes to my mind is of course travel. I want to take my grandmother to Egypt, because that’s been her dream since I know her. And my mom to Croatia. And maybe a cruise or a road trip for myself. I’m getting excited even by the thought of it 😀
Then I’d help my mom renovate our place, because that’s one of her priorities right now and it would be nice to finally be able to be the helpful daughter she always wanted me to be. And also get a car.
Really big stuff:
I’d invest a bit in a real estate property, so even if I lose some money, I’d have a back up plan. The rest I’d set aside and use when the time comes.
I’d also donate to small vet clinics and animal shelters, and a few people who cannot afford to study. I probably won’t be able to help everyone who needs, but I can still try.
Do I really need all that?
Natalie didn’t specify the lottery amount, so I assumed it would be around a million or two. But reading my post again, I realise that these are stuff which would probably make me a bit spoiled. I don’t need new make up and clothes, because I have enough to wear every day, I have free running water so I can wash them, I have a place to live, where I can store them… I mean, do I really need all that?
Maybe I did hit the lottery once by getting born in a place where I can have access to all that, where I can go out with whoever I want, any time I want… Yes, money would definitely help me in a lot of aspects, but I’m grateful for everything I have now as well. And I’ve honestly never heard about a person who won the lottery and then succeeded, they always fail miserably in one way or another.
Maybe the biggest lottery I wish I would win is finding a job which would help me grow personally and financially. Money come and go, but I’d prefer to earn them by myself.
