Today it’s been exactly 2 years since my prom, and I wanted to share my experience with you. I know I’m probably too late, because everyone had their proms in early May and I can’t even offer any inspiration, but oh well..
First, let me tell you a bit about our traditions… We have 2 exams at the end of our high school, which are compulsory for every graduate and are the most important ones (also called matura). They are usually held between the 19-23 May. Then, when finished studying, prom time starts – on 24, 25 and 26 May – every school has a different date, and ours was on the 25th. Usually on that day everyone gathers their friends and family for lunch (or some morning event), then goes to collect the class teacher, then heads to school for the last time, and finally goes to the restaurant/hotel where the big party is supposed to be.
Now, about my outfit. First, I knew that I needed exactly that dress:
I was just dreaming about it, as it was the most beautiful dress I could find on the internet. I’ve been showing it to different boutiques, but none could offer me anything similar to try, and the ones that I’ve found were too bridal looking, so I had to give that idea up. Then I’ve decided that I wanted a long red dress. When I started trying dresses I figured that red wasn’t really my colour. Then I’ve decided I wanted it to be navy blue. And I must tell you, there were some gorgeous navy blue dresses out there! One time I was trying a lovely navy blue dress, when the lady from the store asked me if I wanted to try the same one but in a different shade. I said why not, I was half naked anyway 😀 And then the magic happened. The dress that I’ve got was apparently just waiting for me. It wasn’t even close to anything I’ve ever imagined for my prom, but I must tell you – she was the one that found me (and not the other way around)!
It is like the most unusual colour ever, and I couldn’t even be bothered, as I was absolutely sure that everybody was going to have the same red or navy dress! 😀 I loved the detail on the back and specifically asked for the ribbons – both on the dress and for my hair.
My hair was done by the same woman, who did my mom’s hair on her wedding! I just loved it, it was the perfect hairstyle and exactly how I wanted it!
I’ve done my own make up (quite obviously) and judging from my looks – I’ve never heard of contouring, highlighting or even lipstick 😀 I’ll recreate my make up look probably in my next post, but will definitely try to make it more ‘trendy’.
To the people who have been telling me that one day I’d miss school – 2 years later and haven’t missed it for a second. I am so glad that everything is over now.
To the people who are struggling with their school at the moment – just hold on, it would be over soon!
Thank you everyone for reading xx
