As I love trying affordable make up products and also have a Poundland store just five minutes away from home, as you might guess, I’ve picked a few items from there. For those of you who are not aware, Poundland is a place where every item costs exactly one pound. They also own the Make Up Gallery brand and offer quite a wide range of products – I’m pretty sure they have mascaras, foundations, blushes… basically everything you might need for a complete make up look. Today I’m going to review the items that I’ve got and tell you if they are actually worth it!
Make up Gallery Brush: I’ve purchased quite a lot cheap brushes from Ebay, a couple from Primark, so I’m kind of familiar with their quality. Among them all, this Poundland brush simply sits at the bottom – one of the worst brushes I’ve ever used. You can just see and feel how synthetic and nylon its bristles are. They don’t fall out during washing but to me there’s not even a need to wash it, as I never use it. It’s not useful at all, doesn’t blend and it’s just too soft and difficult to work with.
I give: 1/5 – Don’t buy it.
Nail Varnish Remover Pads: These acetone pads come in a cute plastic pot, and there are about 30 of them. They don’t have a strong acetone smell, if any at all, which I personally like very much. I also like that they are kind of oil-based and don’t make your nails dry out completely. They are so thin and light, and easy to use! I use two of them for a regular nail polish and three or four for some stubborn glittery ones.
I give: 4/5.
Make up Gallery Eyeliner: Would you trust me if I say that this product is possibly the best one in the whole Poundland store (we don’t count the chocolates of course). It’s definitely my favourite product… It has a soft brush, which for me is easy to use. I love that it stays put all day, and never smudges or cracks. And the one thing I love even more is that it doesn’t give me an allergic reaction, and I use it quite a lot! I mean.. for £1 I’d expect some poor quality ingredients, but this is just… a must have!
I give: 5/5.
Make up Gallery Blusher: I honestly never use blush and have no idea why I got this thing. It’s dry and dusty, I guess the shade is quite nice but.. I don’t know, probably I need to use it more often to decide if I like it. It doesn’t have a good payoff, I’d say it’s definitely light. However, to me that’s good because it means that it’s a lot easier to work with.
I give: 2.5/5 – I wouldn’t really recommend or repurchase.
Make up Gallery Nail Colour: There is a huge variety of shades, which I love but at the same time it makes it so difficult to pick just one… and that’s why I got four (and counting). The nail polishes are just gorgeous, quick drying, easy to work with and stay forever. I even think that they are worth it more than some expensive brands. A must have as well! (I’ve made it matte just because I thought it looked better but I don’t think Poundland offers any matte shades).
I give: 5/5 – you need those, trust me!
I also got two more products which I don’t have at the moment so I’m going to use pictures from the Poundland site.
Make up Gallery Single Eye Shadow: The packaging is very basic and looks the same like the blush one, but smaller. The one I got was light purple and a bit shimmery, but looked very nice and delicate on the eye. Unfortunately I can’t find the same shade any more, or any shade at all! To be honest, it was really dusty, but had a great staying powder and colour payoff, so I’d say it’s worth it.
I give: 3.5/5
Make Up Gallery Lip Gloss – I usually never throw a product without giving it quite a few second chances to prove itself. Well, that wasn’t the case with this lip gloss – it was simply terrible. It was heavy and sticky, hard to apply and just… no. Straight to the bin!
I give: 0.5/5 – even worse than the brush!
The eyeliner and the nail polishes are bomb! These are amazing and are definitely worth it! The brush and the lip gross are a big no no! Just stay away from them. Everything else is in the middle – I’m pretty sure you could go on without it.
Have you ever tried a product from the Make up Gallery range? If so, do you have a favourite?
